Green Is Sexy

Hello Friends!

Life on the road is flying by . . . almost three months down! It’s hard to believe that we’ve already been through all of Southern California, Las Vegas, the Phoenix and Denver areas, Omaha NE, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and now we’re almost done with the Chicago area and about to head to Michigan. Being back in the Midwest feels good and familiar, but our amazing friends out West are definitely missed. Thanks for taking such good care of us and for many great memories!

Our time in Chicago has been awesome . . . one of the highlights was the after-party we threw during All Things Organic at the Butterfly Social Club, which appropriately just opened on Earth Day and boasts an organic/eco-friendly drink menu – their “World’s Best Screwdriver” lives up to its name! It was the perfect place to celebrate with old friends and make many new ones. I speak for all of us when I say that we feel so privileged to be having this experience and to be working to raise consciousness. Equally important is the opportunity to raise awareness as far as conscious companies . . . I wish that every time I went grocery shopping there was someone in the aisles enlightening me on the various companies’ business practices and ethics. We truly do vote with our dollars and it’s a good feeling to give people the knowledge to make conscious choices.

I know that all the recent blogs have raved about our visit to Organic Valley’s headquarters in La Farge, WI . . . because it’s well deserved! We had an incredible time there – with every new person we met or piece of information received regarding the company and their mission I became increasingly more impressed. It was reassuring to visit one of their farms and see firsthand how an organic farm is maintained and how the animals are truly raised humanely. In speaking to the farmers it was also valuable to be reminded just how hard they work to provide us with quality food – there was a positive vibe and much hope that through companies like Organic Valley their livelihood can continue to be achieved through farming. One of the most respectable aspects of Organic Valley (as with all of the companies in the Conscious Goods Alliance) is there eagerness to educate – when there’s nothing to hide you want to share everything! They pride themselves in the educational resources they provide and encourage people to visit their website not only to learn more about Organic Valley, but the organic movement in general. Just a comment on the “organic” or “green” movement – I’ve heard some remarks that it’s just a trend and will fade, but I have to agree with those who think that green is sexy because intuitively it feels right . . . because it is right. Going throughout the country I can sense the disconnect between us and the Earth lessening and I am overwhelmingly hopeful for the future. Please keep up the fight – thanks for all your loving support. It’s those of you we’ve been meeting who are really making this experience!

Much love,
Nikki

ps – thanks to my friends on the bus and on the ground who made my 28th birthday so memorable . . . Bassnectar was ridiculous!
