Garrett's Blog - "California Here We Come!"

We are currently driving through Nebraska on our cross-country journey. After sitting around waiting for some bus repairs to be made it feels great to be back on the road. We’ve spent the last four weeks between the Baltimore and D. C. areas and we’ve met a lot of amazing people.

Down south in Virginia we met some of the nicest people ever. Rich, from the Fair Lakes Whole Foods Market, liked our “altar” (a collection of idols, charms, bones, incenses and other items intended to bring good energy from supporters of our mission into the Veggie-Bus’, and our, existence) SO much that he donated a bunch of incense, a turtle shaped incense holder, and a Chinese “good-health” charm. We also met a real estate agent named Lewis, who saw us on the side of the road late at night and decided to turn around to see if we needed help. We were glad he did because he directed us to the Shenandoah River State Park, a beautiful campground along a river surrounded by forest.

In D.C. another Whole Foods Market team member informed us of the Capitol City Brew Fest! Brewers from all over the world set up booths with information and samples of what they each thought was the best beer. All of the music was great, but the best was George Clinton and the Parliamentary Funkadelic. They finished off the set-list in style, playing every hit song I could think of.

In Baltimore we attended the National Products Expo and met many different kinds of people. From dreadlocked sandals to slicked back suits and everything in between, they all came to check out the newest thing and do some “shopping” (loading up on free samples) along the way. In was here that we met some fellow veggie-power-people, Jason and Tara. They own a 1991 Ford school bus that has the old interior ripped out and ready to be built into a living space. Jason has also welded a old Volkswagon van onto the roof of his bus that serves as a bedroom for he and Tara. They plan on converting the bus to veggie oil soon and then heading out West. Hope to see you guys in Cali!!!

The East Coast treated us kind, but we’re extremely glad to be heading back to California. We’re making great time and can’t wait to get to Bioneers, (http://www.bioneers.org/) a forum for connecting the environment, health, social justice and spirit, within a broad progressive framework, this weekend in San Rafael. If you’re in the area make sure to come check out the activities (link to Bioneers) and stop by the Veggie-Bus to say hello!

Peace and Love,
Garrett
